My name is Megan, I am 23 and live in Australia. My mother-in-law (age 55) has
just been
diagnosed with CML.

She also has CIDP (an autoimmune disease) which required regular blood tests to
monitor
complicatons from it's treatment (such as liver and kidney degradation and
infections from
immunosuppression). As a result we were able to watch her white blood cell
count climb
over the last 2 months to 49, at an exponential rate, her platelets are also
around 800
count.

Tests have shown that the Philadelphia chromosome is present in 100% of cells.

As soon as the forms have been processed she will commence treatment with
Glivec
(gleevec).

I am hoping that this group will provide me with a better idea of what to
expect as this
disease takes it's course.

Her hematologist is reluctant to talk about what can go wrong, untill it
happens (doesn't
want to scare us?) and has said that this pill will make her go into remission
and hopefully
she will never enter the accellerated phase of this disease.
