Wow, 250,000. I knew we had caught her CML realy early, we have WBC tracking it
from 12
(4 months ago) to 18 (2 months ago) to 49 (a fortnight ago). However I never
thought that
it could go so high as 250,000.

My mother-in-law was only diagnosed on the 24th of Nov. It actually took 2
months from
the first suspicions untill diagnosis but I guess as the counts were not that
high (relatively)
there was no big rush, except we had two months of wondering what was going on.

Because she was on immunosuppressants we originaly thought there might be an
infection
but then blast cells started to show up and there was no physical indication of
infection so
one thing lead to another and here I am.

I had an Aunt die from CML a couple of years ago but I didn't know her well and
all I know
about her case was that she had it for 11 years and had had several remissions
in that
time. Unfortunately she was pre-gleevec.

Can anyone recommend a web site with a comprehensive list of Gleevec side
effects?

I have noticed that there are several threads on different side effects at the
moment. The
only one that the Dr told us about was inflammation of the liver.

Regards

Megan

living in the US. I was diagnosed with CML at the beginning of October this
year. My WBC
at diagnosis was 250,000. I am now slightly below normal on my WBC. I will
most likely
have another bone marrow test to see how my Ph chromosome is doing in January
(3 mos
from DX). I have found several odd side effects from Gleevec...bone aches,
sleepiness, etc.
Many people have side effects but some do not. With any luck your Mom will
have no side
effects and will achieve normal blood counts and 0% Ph Chromosomes in the
coming year.
For now just help your Mom take it easy and try not to be so worried. This
cancer is
treatable and not nearly as scary as it seems. You will make it through this.
