I have been on Gleevec since March 2003, 800mg.  No side effects anymore except for mental concentration (forgetfullness) and fatigue.  From time to time I do have insomnia, what happens is i will go to sleep immediately then awaken at about 3am and can't go back to sleep until 5 or so then it is time to wake up in a few minutes.  Mental concentration, I thought I was actually losing my mind.  I would forget, couldn't concentrate or focus.  When I went to the doctor this time (MD Anderson) she told me actually students on Gleevec go off of it for a week or so (she isn't recomending it) but they can concentrate and pass their exams.  They also have a patient on ridalin.  It is what we all know as ADD, but this is AADD "Adult Attention Deficit Disorder".  It is another side effect that we are getting.  She said to me try to write everything down and to organize yourself as best as u can (which does help) for I was never much of an organized person.  We all forget things from time to time, but this was beyond that.  I would have a thought and then forget it within minutes. I have very good long term memory but the short term is awful, but at least i know what it is and try to write everything down when I remember it...lol....try not to get to upset over it or rack your brain to remember for i noticed that it just makes u feel worse.  The funny thing is Gleevec is being looked at for Alzeheimer patients.
