I wanted to mention too that free air transportation may be available to the major CML centers from Kentucky through AngelFlight and other similar services which transport cancer patients by private plane.

Penny,

I am sorry to hear about your son.  I don't know of any CML experts
in Kentucky, but I would definitely look into some of the cancer
centers such as MD Anderson in Houston, St. Louis, etc...

If you haven't already, you might look in depth into your son's
insurance to see if some of the major cancer centers are covered in-
network.  When my husband had to have a transplant, we chose
Seattle, and although it is very far away from where we live, it was
in-network for us.  I learned that it is common for insurance
companies to contract with several of the major cancer centers to
provide in-network services for major events such as cancer.

I would definitely consider some of the clinical trials that are out
there and try to see a CML expert for a second opinion.  I also
think, though, that your son might consider doing a preliminary
search on the donor list...there is no charge for the preliminary
search and you will at least know if there are any potential matches
should it come to transplant.  Also, you would be one step closer to
an in depth search if your son decided to or needed to move forward
with transplant.

I wish you and your son much success in finding answers and
treatment.

All the best,
Karly
