Dear Chrissy,

Do not feel bad at all. Here's our experience. My husband was
diagnosed in Jan 2002. We are from Asia, and he is a manager in a
semiconductor wafer fab. Gleevec costs half his monthly salary and in
Singapore, we do not have much insurances for prescription meds. So,
he had to tell his company and since he had worked for the company for
10 years when diagnosed, they are footing 80% of the Gleevec bill.
Otherwise, it would have been very difficult for us to pay for the
whole cost of Gleevec. Our doctor told my husabnd to tell his
employers and ask them for assistance.

My husband is in remission with Gleevec, he has managed to work
full-time all this while and now his colleagues at work are very used
to his illness. They see he is doing well, works as normal and treats
him the same way they treated him pre-CML.

At first, at work, a few of his colleagues were uncomfortable but now
all is well. You will be fine in the workplace with time. They hired
you because of your skills and you know that CML is a chronic disease,
for the majority, there is good QOL. When your colleagues at work see
you work as normal with passing time, you will feel fine. Always
remember that they hired you because you are qualified to do the job.

Best Wishes,
Anjana
