No problem Katy,

Trust me, I am only able to do about half the physical activity I could before being dxed and on Gleevec. Don't get me wrong, I am thankful for Gleevec because I would not be here if it were not for the drug. As has been stated before, the worst part of having CML or other Chronic diseases is the fact that if you do not appear sick people think your not. Doug mentioned  90% of people on Gleevec do not have significant
side effects, but according to the manufacturers website it is around 64% that do have side effects, but of course the degree of severity varies. I am happy for those that do not have major side effects, but I am one of those unfortunate ones that do. So for everyone of you out there that do have side effects, your not alone, and your not lazy or trying to get out of working. Don't get me wrong I am not saying lay around the house and feel sorry for yourself or anything. In my case I do go to the gym with my fiance, but I have to limit my work out in a major way, as I said I am running about 50% of what I use to physically. I also do have major memory issues, but I am not totally sure what is the cause of that to be honest. The bottom line is medication effects different people in different ways, but regardless of how severe the effects are or not, we are all sort of in this together, and that is why we are in this group. I hope my reply to Chrissy was not misunderstood.
Chrissy, I agree you should be proud at getting the job, and there was nothing wrong at all how you approached the situation. I was simply just voicing what I believe are facts(sadly) about the nature of employers. I would love nothing better than to be able to go back to work and be making the money I use to make, rather than half that amount. Everyone hang in there,

Terry

Chrissy,
No reason to worry - you've done everything properly & should be proud
of your skills in getting the job!
Also keep in mind that most CMLers dont really have any significant
side effects such that it would effect someone in a work environment.
on this group, we hear the side effects because it is a support group &
that tends to be the nature of where people can provide support.  I
personally worked with my old job for 2 years after being diagnosed
(travelling about 1/3 time), and began an intense gym workout 5
days/week at the same time (which i continue today).  Now i have
started my own company & am as active/busy as ever.
Just in case it seems overwhelming at times, keep in mind that us
CMLers are blessed with an optimistic outlook and a bright future.
Being diagnosed & on gleevec does not necessarily mean that our work
will be affected.  Sure we need to take sick days for doctors visits
etc, but thats well within the bounds of what is expected with a new
employee.  Certainly some people have side effects where it will
infringe on work, but if you believe the doctors statistics, about 90%
of people dont have significant side effects.

all the best & good luck with the job!
Doug
