Thanks Chrissy,

It was funny went you mentioned about the smell of food making you ill sometimes, I have that on occasion. The main thing I experience is that nothing really sounds good, and once I start to eat I get very full, very fast. This could be due to stomach shrinkage, I am not sure. So I have been trying to eat little portions throughout the day. The thing is food just doesn't interest me like it use to. I was drinking those chocolate flavored Ensures, and they helped, but at over $6 for a six pack that was getting to expensive. Regina(my fiance) keeps on me to make sure I eat, so I am hoping I will at least get back to 150lb's someday..lol. This may sound strange but for some reason I have gotten to really like those banquet "Hearty One" TV dinners, so I figure those things have to have allot of calories, and stuff to help me gain some weight back. I have also started downing allot of those Little Debbie brownies, and Reeses Cups right before I go to bed, I figure since your body does not burn as many calories while you sleep this may help too. When I first started going to the gym with Regina I was working out way to much. I would have to lay down as soon as we got home, and be out for most of the day. I was getting great definition on my body, but it was not allowing me to gain much weight and in fact was causing me to lose it. I think mainly because I was not taking in enough calories to offset the working out. I guess part of me was hoping working out like I was doing would get me back to where I could attempt going back to work, but in reality I was over doing it, but at least I do not look totally like skeletor..hehe. Now I do a mile on the treadmill, and about 20 minutes or so on the kick bag and stop. This gets my blood pumping without totally wiping me out for the rest of the day.Regina has said I just need a little more body fat. I am going to try some of those protein things you mentioned though Chrissy, thanks for the advice on those. Since I am trying to eat little"meals" throughout the day those would be great.
The fact is I have always had a high metabolism. I also suspect had CML active in my system for a long time, because looking back I use to have to take ephedrine or "Mini-Thins" to make it through the day, and that went on for several years before I was diagnosed. If I did not take it, I would get very tired.
I will be 40 in December so I am hoping maybe the older I get my metabolism will slow down a bit, I guess I will have to wait and see.
I want to thank you for your reply and kind words, I have wondered if some of my replies or postings were a bit much sometimes, because I tend to be a bit blunt about things. I just have always been a "tell it like it is" sort of person, and just say what I feel. Sometimes it can get me into trouble, but I figure it is better than sugar coating things.
Well I have rambled enough for now, thanks again Chrissy. I think it is cool as hell that you have been able to get back to being "normal", and I hope things keep in that direction for you. Take care and hang in there my friend.

Terry,

I think the part where you mentioned, "my side effects are now managed
and I have a decent life now," is the best part of all.  It's such a
positive sentiment.  I agree with you 100%.  We are fortunate to have
the QOL we do.  I often think that despite the fact it is scary to have
cancer, if you have to have something, maybe CML is the thing to have.

It's hard to put weight on, isn't it?  I never would have thought I
would ever have a problem eating!  Like I said before, I tended to eat
anything and everything, because I was desperate to put on weight.  I
am 5'3" and have always been around 145-150lbs.  Around 8 months ago, I
was down to 115lbs.  I dropped from my one-time size 12 to around a 2
or a 4!  Now I am about 140lbs, but it took me awhile to put the weight
back on, probably about 5-6 months.  Not only was losing the weight a
worry, I had to buy all new clothes.

Anyway, some of the things that helped me put the weight back on were
not really 'health' foods, but contained a lot of calories.  I ate ice
cream, milkshakes, nutribars, bacon and egg sandwiches (I survived on
those for what seemed like forever!), fruit smoothies, cookies,
etc...in addition to small breakfasts of toast and homemade eggnog, and
typically a 'meat and potatoes' supper.  If you can stand to eat
protein bars or drink protein shakes, they are good for you, as they
often contain some vitamins and minerals.  What is the hardest thing
you find about eating?  For me, just the smell of food made me feel
ill.  Looking back, it's hard to believe how disinterested I was in
food, as my appetite has come back virtually full force.  Hopefully
that will happen for you, too, in time.  I still get the occasional
stomach upset, unfortunately, and like Allyson said, acidic fruits and
foods can be hard on the tummy.  I also find spicy food and greasy food
hard to tolerate.  The things I liked best could be thrown in a blender
and swallowed as a drink.  Something wet and cold is always nice.
You've probably tried a lot of these things, but I just thought I'd
mention them.

Terry, you have a really positive attitude.  I really admire that you
are honest about your CML experience and sum up your ideas about it so
well.  This gives the rest of us info about CML that isn't provided
anywhere else.  Thank you for that!
Chrissy
