Hello GB: Nice to hear that your son is doing so well on Gleevec........I've been on it for almost three years.......coming the latter part of January, it will be exactly three years since my dx's for CML. Believe me, it came out of no where & has been quite a journey since. I've learned so very much about Leukemia & blood along with bone marrow, etc. in that time......more than I ever wanted to know. I'm the "biggest" baby when it comes to blood, needles, & pain there ever was on the face of the earth, so I went into this with fear in the beginning & then found humor in it to quiten the fears. Plus, I have a huge amount of faith in God, so that's helped me along in my journey as well as having a very good & understanding spouse.
Yes, I have noticed the Gleevec "fog" at times........it's like my brain is "muddled" in it's thinking. I told my husband that I find myself doing things that I swear I can't remember doing here in the house like putting things up in places I don't remember and finding them later and wondering how they got there. (smile) Then, I find I can't remember certain things.........it will be right there.........just out of reach....so to speak.......and then finally after much hard thought, I will recall it. You know the old saying "it's right on the tip of my tongue", well that's how I find my brain working at times. (smile) I've gotten to where if it's something really important that I need to remember, I write it down as soon as I can. My onc/hematologist made me go over and take the pneumonia vaccine as well as the flu one this fall. I've not had that in thirty years, but she insisted I get it this time. I've only had her since July of this year & none of the other doctors in the past insisted I do them, so am not sure why she did, but I went ahead and had it done. I have often wondered each year since being dx'ed whether I should get one or not, but just never remembered to ask. I was told that the pneumonia shot will last up to five years, so that's good. Nothing was said about any of the other vaccines. I've noticed since being on Gleevec, I have not had as many problems with my sinus type allergies that I've had in the past. Was always having upper respiratory type problems in the winters & lots of sinus problems in the spring & autumns. Took Claritin & Zyrtec......but after about a year on Gleevec, quit taking any allergy medicines & only take Advil Cold & Sinus when needed which isn't very often. I use to have Sinus Infections a lot before Gleevec, so don't know if something has changed there or what.....could be taking all of the extra vitamins and supplements have helped keep up my resistance. Thanks & Keep Looking Up, Suzieq --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ [CMLHope] A support group of http://cmlhope.com ------------------------------------------------- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "CMLHope" group.
