Hi
well Sheila if the truth be known, I did not have a
Hem Doc at all, well yes for the first three yeas I
did, he is now in Ontario.
Dr. Sheridan was a researcher and doctor who
does research only I think, he is in Ontario but was
from the UK. After he left I went once or twice to his
fill in Doc, but was told there is not much they could
do.. this was 1978 or so. So I thought why bother
going all the way to the city to be told "keep doing
what your doing" I asked my family physician if he
would mind he agreed and for about 27 years he did it
all, until one day my spleen took off and my
Hem dropped to around 70, platelets to around 3 he got
nervous and got me a doctor in the city, How I was
treated, My Fam Doc would let my wbc count go up to
around 100,000 or 150,000 before starting treatment,
then he would get me on 2mg of Myleran a day, he would
keep this up until my counts were in the 50,000 range
then he would cut me back to 1 mg a day or even .50 mg
a day until I reached 30,000 then he would take me off
meds, it took a few weeks for the myleran to work
itself out of my sysetm so that my counts would dip
close to normal and take about six months to get high
again, then back to the same routine.. fine balancing
act it was to be sure.....That was the only med I used
up until my city doc took over.. I had no aches or
pains felt wonderful did my work etc etc..
Today which is Monday I received platelets and my HGB
is down to 95 so Thursday I will receive two bags of
Hgb and 1 platelet. Hope this explains it
for you ...
Thanks to you and Barb for the questions, I very
seldom offer any advice unless asked, I am not a
Doctor and not qualifed to answer anything except what
has happened to me
