Hi Skip, The Buffy Coat is a layer of cells that form during centrifugation of whole blood. It reportedly has a "buff" hue and thus the name. It is composed of white blood cells and platelets. After centrifugation, the clear plasma is on the top, the red blood cells are on the bottom and the buffy coat is in between them.
