Hi everyone:

Greenie, your onc at NMC is an ***hole. I am in a study too, and my NP
calls me back whenever I call and lets me know if I can take specific
meds prescribed by other providers. I have never been told not to
call. Most providers are not familiar with what you can take and what
you can't. And, I get my scripts at Target Pharmacy and I've asked
them about drug interactions with Gleevec and they have never heard of
Gleevec - it is not in their database!!!! So, I have to call my study
NP. Sometimes I think they tell you that you can't take certain drugs
due to the protocols of the study you are in - one study could be
vastly different from another study (my theory since joining this
group and finding out others can take meds I am prohibited from
taking). I take the Wellbutrin XL for depression and I also take
Klonopin for the anxiety........so, I don't know if Wellbutrin is
effective for anxiety alone. I took Prozac for years (it is an SSRI)
and I had a heck of a time coming off of it - I would get worse
depression than I had prior to taking any medication for depression
and I started getting panic attacks. That's when they prescribed
Wellbutrin and Klonopin the first time and it worked.

As far as chapped lips - I found that Vaseline works the best. I take
my Gleevec with supper so I don't feel lousy all day, also, if I get
sick I just go to bed to keep from throwing up. I was taking it in the
a.m. and then I would sleep all day and feel terrible. It is somewhat
reassuring to see that others experience the same side effects that I
do that are also discounted by my onc. It gets so frustrating
sometimes - you feel like they are calling you a liar.

One other thing, my study providers did give me a sheaf of papers
outlining which meds I cannot take. If I were you Greenie, I would ask
them for a list of meds you can't take the next time you are in the
office. I would think that the Gleevec website would also provide a
list. According to the side effects listed for Gleevec - anxiety was
one of them.

Take care one and all!
Kelly
