When I first started Gleevec in June of 2004 at 400 mg i had a mulitude of severe side effects. I had so many of the side effects. I have had the slurred speech, I will be in the middle of a sentence and forget the word I'm trying to say, and a rapid heart beat that they said is a side effect of Gleevec. My onc took me off of it for a month and my side effects went away. So he put me back on it and the side effects came back. To this date my numbers are holding steady and he now has me on 200 mg and all is still good. The reason he decreased it is because I still continue to have severe side effects daily. Nasuea, severe body pain to include joints muscle and bone pain. I did have severe diherria but that has decreased immensly with the lower dose. I would think that after 4 years the side effects would go away but they never have. I take a lot of different meds to help with the side effects. I also take Lexpro for my depression and I noticed a difference in the first 24 hours. For a long time my doc made me feel guilty complaining about the side effects especially the pain because he was worried I might get addicted. I take 80 mg of Oxycotin a day. I told him take the pain away and I wouldn't complain and need pain meds. On that day I was fed up with his attitude and laid it all on the line about how he made me feel. Every since then he has had a different attitude and dosen't make me feel guilty about complaining. I'm glad I got fed up and said something. I take my Gleevec at dinner time, I use to take it in the morning, I've tried lunch, nothing works. Some how during the night when I'm asleep something goes a muck, I get between 7 and 8 hours sleep. Maybe I need to get up in the middle of the night, stay up for a few hours then go back to bed, hell I don't know. And I though Interferon was bad. I tried pot a couple times back in the 70's I didn't like it but they should make it legal for us folks that have this kind of problem. I read that it work good for people with cancer.
