Greenie
I took a gleevec break for 10 weeks because of severe side effects.
Mind you, this was after consultation with my oncologist and Dr.
Drucker. I was and had been PCRU for 4 years. I returned to 300 mg
gleevec and still had the side effects. They are all the ones this
line of posts has mentioned except nausea. I took my pills at night so
I could sleep through those side effects. I am now on tasigna with
great relief and have NO side effects. My best guess is that if you
are on meds for depression or working on solving that issue, a 10-14
day break might not tell you anything. It takes that long for
depression meds to build up/get out of the system. And if you are on
the depression meds, would going off gleevec really give you a true
reading of what the cause is? I don't know. I have not suffered
with this demise but I have family members who do. My best wishes for
solutions to this. I know it can be debilitating. The break from
gleevec did nothing to my PCRU status. I would consult with your
doctors and not do it on your own.....
My side effects would cycle. When one would finish another would show
up. The worst was joint effusion. The pain was unbearable. And it
didn't cycle. It was there 24/7. The other was count suppression-
exhaustion and fatigue. I thought I was going to have to quit work..
For a time, I investigated doing the transplant just to get it fixed
once and for all.
I wish everyone well.,..
