Hello Ann,
I took gleevec for 5 years. The side effects became unbearable. and I
switched to tasigna. However, during the 4th year, I was advised to
take a break and did so for 10 weeks. I have been and held the PCRU
the whole time. I do agree with Trey, that you should have a blood
level test done. Mine came back at 1100 - v ery close to normal. I
consulted with Druker and my oncologist ( and was monitored closely).
My side effects went totally away in a matter of 2 weeks. It was the
best time of my life!! I resumed the gleevec ( always at 400 mg only)
and in a matter of weeks, the side effects were back. My oncologist
decided to put me on tasigna because he classified me intolerant.
So, Psycollgically, it did do me a world of good.
I would do the test first, and as well, make sure you have the
permission and monitoring of your oncologist.
Good luck.
