Hi Kelly:  Take one thing at a time.  Your husband should get unemployment, and
sometimes its almost near what you got as a pay.  With all your problems, you
should apply for permanent disability if your long term runs out.  I know your
job covers you for a little while on the temporary disability.  I know this is
how it works in NJ.  You are a strong person, and have had to do a lot of
things to survive through the past year or so.  Your medication is something
you have to check on with regard to getting it for free.  I think you will
qualify.  They base it on your finances.  When my husband was out of work, we
were fortunate enough to pick-up the COBRA Ins.  We did that for a year, but it
cost us over $8000.00 for the year, and Novartis gave me my Gleevec for free
until my husband went back to work.
I know its tough with the economy and people getting layed off.  If I can
think of something or find something out for you I will let you know.  Keep The
Faith, something always works out.
Suzzie

Hi Everyone!

I hope everyone had a nice Christmas and New Years. I believe I
mentioned before that I was taken off of Gleevec 400 mg q.d. in
October and started Sprycel 70 mg x2 q.d. I was absolutely miserable
on the Sprycel. I was so full of fluid, it was miserable to even eat
not to mention the fact I had conversational dyspnea (gasping for
breath between words). Nevertheless, I had to stop the Sprycel
Christmas Eve. I had a BMB in early December and evidently still
showed 0 PCRU. Yesterday (New Years Eve), my husband was laid off from
work - no warning - and was informed our insurance coverage ceased the
same day. We have no secondary insurance. I have 2 bottles of Sprycel
that I can't take and no money to go to the doctor. I get disability
payments through long-term disability insurance provided through my
previous employer, whom I just found out was just taken over by
another company starting the first of the year. When it hits the fan -
it really hits the fan, eh? I don't even know if my disability
insurance will continue or not. So. I will be busily cancelling all of
my doctor appointments. I called in every prescription I had yesterday
and the insurance still paid their portion. Quite frankly, I have no
idea where to turn. I had to laugh.........just when you think it
couldn't get any worse.........My dog had some type of stroke or
something - she's my buddy - a little Boston Terrier - I took her to
the vet and he explained what was going on and put her on steroids. He
was going to do every test known to dogkind down to damn near brushing
her teeth when I put my foot down and he knocked $100 off the bill (it
still cost me $168, but this was before I had a clue my husband was
getting laid off). I could not bear the thought of her suffering and
me standing idly by doing nothing. She is doing very well and seems to
be recovering nicely. So, back to me. What do I do? Apply for
Medicaid? Probably can't have a house or a car to qualify......sheesh.

On a BRIGHTER note, my mom got my husband and I airfare and hotel
reservations for the 3rd week in January in Lauderdale by the Sea,
Florida. Can't back out or she loses her money. So, I DO have
something to look forward to.

How long does it take for the CML to come back when you take a drug
holiday (I know, everybody is different - I just need an estimate).

Honest, I'm not crying in my soup. I am still a little too shell-
shocked to even react, other than hysterical, inappropriate laughter.
I live in Ohio, so if anyone knows of any clinical trials, etc.,
please let me know.

Thank you for being here!
Kelly
