Thank you Barb,
The HR personnel at my husband's place of work told him that they just
changed insurance companies and therefore she did not have any
paperwork or anything at that point so we could apply immediately for
COBRA. So, it is a sit and wait kind of situation until we find out
who the new insurance company is and how much they are going to bilk
us for COBRA. I know the last time my husband was laid off (5 years
ago or so - he is a mechanical engineer) - after paying COBRA and
child support - his take home from unemployment was $600. This was
before I was diagnosed with CML. Now he is only paying child support
for 1 child instead of 2, so, that will decrease that off the top by
about $400 per month. We figure the COBRA will swallow that up (lol) -
such pessimists. It just makes me uneasy to have absolutely no
coverage at all with my situation in limbo as it is - I have no idea
what CML drug they will try me on next. Tasigna is the only one left
in the arsenal at this point. And, I have seen other posts where
others had trouble with the Gleevec and their dose was simply lowered
and they have done well and remained in remission. (My argument that
my onc does not want to hear). Just say after me "God grant me the
serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the ability to change
the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." Can't say it
any more succinctly than that!
I do so gratefully appreciate all of your advice, kindness and
support. That, in itself, is good medicine.
Bless you all!
Kelly
