I was dx'd in November/December 2007. I was on Gleevec 400 mg 1 q.d.
In October of 2008, they had to take me off of it due to vision loss,
severe memory loss (I couldn't even remember a conversation from the
day before) and cognitive difficulties. I had a short (2 week) bout of
Sprycel in December, but had to stop it due to shortness of breath
(fluid around the lungs). I am still waiting for a lower dose of
Sprycel to be shipped to me.....doc ordered it quite a while ago. To
this day, my vision has failed dramatically, my memory improved but I
have brain farts constantly, I wake up with numb arms and my left foot
cramps quite painfully. I also have osteoarthritis in my knees (stairs
can be challenging), shoulders, wrists, fingers, hands, back and neck.
My knees give me the most grief and I NEVER had pain in my knees until
now. My back is quite painful if I stand on my feet for any length of
time (bulging discs in both back and neck). Not complaining although
it probably sounds like it. (Actually, I'm whining). The Gleevec put
me in complete remission, I just hope I am still in remission. I'll be
50 in May and I feel like I'm 80 most days. I try to be active and
then I PAY big time. They gave me tramadol for the pain, but, it only
works if I take it with an Advil. Then I'm tired. I don't want to be
tired, so, I put up with the pain most days. I don't know whether to
blame it on the Gleevec or the CML. I do believe the Gleevec kept the
osteoarthritis in check, but once I stopped it, the arthritis
accelerated - my theory only. My insurance sucks and I have an appt.
tomorrow to see my onc, but, I am going to cancel it because my
insurance still hasn't paid the bill from January to the tune of over
$5,000.00. Sheesh, I am throwing a little fit here, aren't I? Sorry
guys. That's why I quit posting in the first place - my negativity and
sheer frustration with medical care and the hoop jumping required for
every doc visit. My husband is back to work (Yay!) but, that
eliminates me from any medical help beyond our insurance. Such as it
is. Spring is here!
