Hi Beth, I was diagnosed in 11-05 and was also placed on Gleevec. After about 3 month on Gleevec, I too developed high liver counts. My bilirubin was sky high and eyes and skin were yellow. They said I had Gleevec induced Hepititis. It was very scary time for me also. Sprycel and Tasigna were not FDA approved at that time. It took about 8 weeks for my liver to recover. The liver, I learned is an amazing organ in that it can recover. I waited about 4 months for Sprycel to be FDA approved and was then placed on that. It took the Doctors awhile to get the dosage adjusted. I am now on only 20mg bid and CML in undectable in my PCR test most of the time. Sometimes they do see a trace but the Doctor said that is the name of the game. It will get better Beth as your body adjust to the meds. Soon CML will not always be so scary and it will become something that you just happen to have and is treatable. I am sorry to hear that you have Diabetes to deal with in addition. Hello out there! My name is Beth and I am 48 and was diagnosed with CML on February 12th, 2010. I ws placed on Gleevec and tried for 2.5 months but was unable to tolerate the side effects so I have been on Tasigna for the last 6 weeks....LIver enzymas 3X normal and have become diabetic, needing to take insulin at night with the chemo...Have been on 200 Mill. a day, half a dose, and just moved up to 300mgs two days ago..lots of body pain and nausea onthe higher dose. I hope it calms down...I am here to share hope with others who are on this journey. It has been a scarry time. I know I am still adjusting.. Hope to hear from someone out there.
