When I was a child, whenever I got a sunburn my mother would slather
on a loose paste made of baking soda and cool water.  That took the
sting right out.  It's a good thing to go back in our memories and
conjure up the home remedies that worked for painful or nasty little
problems.  I was glad to be reminded that ammonia is good for insect
bites and stings.
