I never reached remission on Gleevec and had a terrible time until I went on Sprycel. My blood pressure always runs a little high; doc wants me to take BP meds but I have tried them and don't do well on them. The last one I took was Aetenol; gave me heart pains. Have you tried walking and diet. Walking seems to help. A diet low in animal foods, with lots of fish, fruit and veggies may help also. Exercise in moderation is good. One side effect that I had right before my dx was that I could feel my heart beating in my tummy on the right side. It still does, and they don't know why. Good luck and so glad you are in remission. I'm having trouble with my blood pressure. On gleevec 100mg six a day. Been in remission since 2002. Now my blood pressure out of control. Dr just up my lisinopril to 10mg twice a day with a water pill. The lowest its been so far is156/84.I get dizzy. Light headed and racing heart rate. I totally. Feel weird. And can tell when it spikes. Anyone else having this problems. [email protected] Jan 25 11:00AM -0500 Try the DASH Diet. Google the DASH Diet and see what comes up. It is a proven diet for those with HBP. In a message dated 1/24/2013 9:11:14 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: Hey Doris, I've been fighting high blood pressure the last couple of years - due to medications of course! I can't take the most common medications for BP and the ones I can haven't been totally effective. So since I don't smoke and I'm not overweight I decided I would do a food log. That is record everything I ate or drank and see how much sodium I was consuming. Short version - I started my log one day and entered what I had for breakfast and lunch - looking up sodium content on either packaging or the internet. I was WAY over the daily maximum -of 2300 mg (for healthy people, it's 1500 mg for people with hypertension) at lunch! Just recording everything made me couscous enough of sodium that I was below 2000 mg by day 2. And my BP immediately went down to normal. The mechanism is simple. Excess sodium in the blood binds water that should be eliminated and the increased volume increases blood pressure. Here's a really good explanation_ http://longevity.about.com/od/abouthighbloodpressure/p/sodium.htm_ (http://longevity.about.com/od/abouthighbloodpressure/p/sodium.htm) If you live in the Western World you can count on consuming too much salt - it's everywhere. My first surprise was the Whataburger's grilled chicken has 3 times the sodium of their fried Whatachicken. They post calories in the store. I had to go to their web site to check sodium content. Hope this helps. [email protected] Jan 25 11:03AM -0500 Wow! Millie, that is cold. It has been cold here also for Florida. I am running my heater right now. The sun is out but it's still cold at least for me. Going to take my daily walk, and eat an orange. I call it my D&C. hehe Glad your home health care of over, but when you need it you need it. Thank the Lord for all those wonderful programs we have in place for us. Yes, I'm ready for summer. Don't like the cold. Blessings, Jeanie<3 In a message dated 1/25/2013 12:55:16 A.M. I just came off of two months of Home Care, but really need to work on building my strength again. I will get there. I think that every day I get a bit back. I just don't ever give up, but then that's me. I thank God for each day I have. It is really cold in PA. It has been below zero at night and not that warm during the day....around 15 to 20. I think we'll be getting a little snow tomorrow, but that means it will warm up some. I'm ready for Spring.
