I would like to try and teach you some ways that you can help yourself. This is exactly what I did, and it really helped me through a very difficult time 13 Things Mentally Strong People Dont Do Mentally strong people have healthy habits. They manage their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in ways that set them up for success in life. Check out these things that mentally strong people dont do so that you too can become more mentally strong. 1. They Dont Waste Time Feeling Sorry for Themselves Mentally strong people dont sit around feeling sorry about their circumstances or how others have treated them. Instead, they take responsibility for their role in life and understand that life isnt always easy or fair. Note: When I was first diagnoised I was frightened to death. I had and still have a wife and two children. Throughout my bone marrow transplant I had a lot of doubt about what my future would bring. I would say to myself "Why me, what did I do to deserve this, it isn't fair" Then I learned sometimes life isn't fair but I still had to deal with it. 2. They Dont Give Away Their Power They dont allow others to control them, and they dont give someone else power over them. They dont say things like, My boss makes me feel bad, because they understand that they are in control over their own emotions and they have a choice in how they respond. Note: You have the power of your mind, and you know your body better then anyone else. So learn how to use your own power. 3. They Dont Shy Away from Change Mentally strong people dont try to avoid change. Instead, they welcome positive change and are willing to be flexible. They understand that change is inevitable and believe in their abilities to adapt. 4. They Dont Waste Energy on Things They Cant Control You wont hear a mentally strong person complaining over lost luggage or traffic jams. Instead, they focus on what they can control in their lives. They recognize that sometimes, the only thing they can control is their Attitude. Note: remember me speaking about ATTITUDE? 5. They Dont Worry About Pleasing Everyone Mentally strong people recognize that they dont need to please everyone all the time. Theyre not afraid to say no or speak up when necessary. They strive to be kind and fair, but can handle other people being upset if they didnt make them happy. 6. They Dont Fear Taking Calculated Risks They dont take reckless or foolish risks, but dont mind taking calculated risks. Mentally strong people spend time weighing the risks and benefits before making a big decision, and theyre fully informed of the potential downsides before they take action. 7. They Dont Dwell on the Past Mentally strong people dont waste time dwelling on the past and wishing things could be different. They acknowledge their past and can say what theyve learned from it. However, they dont constantly relive bad experiences or fantasize about the glory days. Instead, they live for the present and plan for the future. 8. They Dont Make the Same Mistakes Over and Over Mentally strong people accept responsibility for their behavior and learn from their past mistakes. As a result, they dont keep repeating those mistakes over and over. Instead, they move on and make better decisions in the future. 9. They Dont Resent Other Peoples Success Mentally strong people can appreciate and celebrate other peoples success<http://www.lifehack.org/articles/lifestyle/10-wise-lessons-what-i-wish-i-knew-when-i-was-younger.html> in life. They dont grow jealous or feel cheated when others surpass them. Instead, they recognize that success comes with hard work, and they are willing to work hard for their own chance at success. Note: When I had to live in that small plastic bubble in the hospital for many months when the weekends came most of the people working on the unit were able to go home for the weekend but I had to remain in that plastic bubble. That was until I learned that this was my fight not theirs, and I had to win my fight in order to be able to go home, and I did. Try to picture having to live in a 5X9 plastic bubble for many months. Your mind does some strange things but you can concur them if you use your mind in structured ways. 10. They Dont Give Up After the First Failure Mentally strong people dont view failure as a reason to give up. Instead, they use failure as an opportunity to grow and improve. They are willing to keep trying until they get it right. 11. They Dont Fear Alone Time Mentally strong people can tolerate being alone and they dont fear silence. They arent afraid to be alone with their thoughts and they can use downtime to be productive. They enjoy their own company and arent dependent on others for companionship and entertainment all the time but instead can be happy alone<http://www.lifehack.org/articles/communication/how-live-happy-life-alone.html> . Note: I wouldn't say that I was happy being all alone but I learned how to enjoy (for the lack of a better word) myself when being alone. I did some things to keep my mind occupied and tried to keep busy with doing some exercise when I was able to. 12. They Dont Feel the World Owes Them Anything Mentally strong people dont feel entitled to things in life. They werent born with a mentality that others would take care of them or that the world must give them something. Instead, they look for opportunities based on their own merits. 13. They Dont Expect Immediate Results Whether they are working on improving their health or getting a new business off the ground, mentally strong people dont expect immediate results. Instead, they apply their skills and time to the best of their ability and understand that real change takes time. And Finally we skip to number 18. I hope this can help you to see just how strong you really are. You just have to dig deep down inside yourself to see.
