I am officially back on 400mg of Gleevec. My ONC and I had been discussing and researching the newer TKI's since July. The last month, I have been trying to get approved for Bosutinib approved thru the VA. My ONC and I thought the VA ONC had it on order, but when I went for my appointment The VA pharmacist had disapproved it. He would approve Gleevec. His reasoning was t hat I had had a good response for 4+ years. My 6+ years off TKI's should allow me another long success period. For those know or use the VA, my status is classified as a duel patient. I am only eligible for prescriptions, but the Cancer Meds have to be prescribed by a VA doctor. Of course, I am disappointed but the reality is that when I started the vacation My ONC and I had discussed the probably of doing this. But since they have 3 new TKI's and one of those looked like it would have less side effects we opted to change course.
