As a note on (FCKEditor) the blessed "paste as plain text" button, I
actually went as far as to remove the other paste buttons to save myself
the agony. But, no, I don't have it reading off my own stylesheets yet.

The real culprit here, as we all know, is Word.
You can also try getting your clients to save their Word files as HTML
Filtered and style them using only H1-6, P, I and B. This cleans up a lot of
gunk.
You can also use Tidy as a module with some WYSIWYGs. HTMLArea is one, I
believe.
There are WYSIWYGs out there that claim to clean Word code to
XHTML-transitional standards but they all seem to cost.

Thanks, I'll take a more closer look.
Drupal have a nice facility where you can configure the editor for the user,
but it is still not completely mature. Had trouble installing FCKEd on it.
