I think our C&Cs would fair as well as the Dehler. We had a nasty grounding one summer, hit a sandbar at full speed while surfing a wave. It was the same impact as dropping the boat from 12 feet high onto the ground. We were knocked off our feet, then the wave caught up and lifted the boat for a second bang and then we lay over. Despite laying over 45 degrees, we were able to restart the motor and using the swell to lift the hull we goosed the motored in surges to get off the bar and surprisingly the boat never took on water. Stupid mistake that cost me $$, but we replaced the keel with a newer design. The hull never took on any water in the two months it took to make arrangements, and I ran the boat 60 miles to a place who could handle the repairs. Everyone who saw the damage including the guy who made repairs was totally impressed with the boat's construction.
A friend of mine just repaired a leak in the hull of his Beneteau 31. He bought it new 3yrs ago. It had a small leak since day one that no one could find. He took it back to the dealer and they rebedded the keel under warranty but he lost use of the boat during all that work. The leak was still there and he spent much time reenforcing rudder post where he could get at it. Finally, in desperation, he cut a hole in a bulkhead behind the aft cabin to check the rudder post there, and found it weeping. He ground the glass and epoxied a repair. No more leak. The problem wasn't damage, but poor quality control. The boat cost him $129K.
