Pete,
In addition to being a strikingly-handsome captain of a C&C sailboat,
I've been the Regatta Chair for City Island Yacht Club, I'm now the Fleet
Captain of Morris Yacht and Beach Club, and, for thirteen years running, the
Commodore of the Eastchester Bay Yacht Racing Association (EBYRA). We've tried
bulletin boards, social networks, meet-ups, and even a gathering that ran
similar to speed dating, but for captains and crew.
But, by far, the best approach is a personal touch -- Talking with
available crew, learning their skill sets and their personalities, and then
matching them with the boat and captain that you feel would work best for them.
I've found that this builds stronger crew relationships that will art for many
many years.
Plus, you get to skim off the better people for your own boat before
anyone else knows :-)
All the best,
Edd
