Fred,

I really hate to mess with a winning machine. We do very well in light air
and hold our own in the heavy stuff too. I just feel like a wimp when we
think about reefing in 14kts true wind speed...
We spend most of our time in light air and only manage to have one or two
heavy air races a year. I think I will stick with what I have for now,
although my keel weight is about 85# short of the advertised ballast for my
model. The weight was stamped into the top of the keep.

Jake:

The shoe cost us 3 seconds a mile.

I've told this story before but it's worth telling again. This takes the
"we would'nt modify our boat unless we wanted to make it faster" to the max.

When I bought a Peterson 41 the previous owner had added 1200 lbs. of
internal ballast. PHRF penalized him 3 seconds a mile. I decided to remove
the internal ballast. PHRF penalized me 3 seconds per mile. Hmmmm!
