Allan, Thanks, this is fascinating to me. This information combined with the recent thread on hull numbers has helped me understand where our boat fits in the bigger picture of 30-2's. Our hull number is ZCC30045I788, which I believe indicates we are hull 45 out of the 175 built. We do have the wood cabinets in the galley, and the laminate panels in the ceiling.
One other thing I had questions about was our sail number. All of the sails that came with the boat were marked 4517. The previous owner had told me that it was the total count across all C&C boats from the hull number. Looking closer at it, I am now wondering if it really an improper reading of the hull number, mistaking the "I" for a 1 and adding in the year of manufacture. What format do other 30-2's use for sail numbers? If the XL's used running backstays, I assume they were fractional rigs then? Is the mast on those higher, but with the same I dimension? Either way, it would be a different sailing boat.
