I originally had the 1 ½” transom exhaust outlet that was used for the A4 on my
38. The 38 has a reverse transom, so the outlet was angled up at around 30
degrees. The PO had installed a Universal M35B, the installation manual for
which calls for a 2” exhaust. So the water flow through my exhaust sprayed out
and up to form a rooster tail behind the boat. Wish I had a dollar for each
time someone on the ICW called me to tell me I had water shooting out the back
– and going downwind with the engine running above idle was pretty damp and
smelly at times.

I bought a piece of 1 ½” heater hose with a 45 degree bend in it from my local
Advance Auto, cut off the excess hose, and secured it to the exhaust outlet
with a band clamp. That pointed the water spray down until I got a chance to
put in a proper 2” exhaust outlet with a flapper valve, which is in the hull
under the transom overhang, as part of the engine replacement in 2011.

it has 1.5 inch exhaust outlet, I belive it is the original, to which I have
attached a PVC 90 degree elbow so that the water blows down as opposed to
straight back from the boat
