It puts less stress on the server. Usually when someone connects to Qpopper the PAM mechanism is fired up to check if the username and password are valid. This takes 2-3 seconds extra time, too. Now when you're looking at "top" at that time you'll see that each in.qpopper process creates a small CPU usage spike - generating between 85% and 95% of CPU usage. With many people POP'ing at the same time this can be a problem. With the new package you don't see this extra load, so your box could handle more concurrent POP3 connections. > (never change a running system...?) Whatever works best for you. If you're running the stock Qpopper which came with the RaQ, then you don't have to upgrade.
