Arapahoe County:
--A Green Heron was reported by Todd at Cooley Lake in South Platte Park on
July 6. Cooley Lake is a limited access area. Contact park
office at 303-730-1022 to gain access.
--2 male Purple Martins were reported by Larson flying near Centennial Airport
on July 8.
Bent County:
--A Piping Plover, Snowy Plover, and Least Tern were reported by Sanders at
John Martin Reservoir on July 4.
Boulder County:
--A Pacific Loon was reported by Blatchley on McIntosh Lake in Longmont on July
10.
El Paso County:
--A singing male Indigo Bunting was reported by Kathy Miller on the Santa Fe
Trail north of the Woodmen Road access area on July 2.
Fremont County:
--A Green Heron was reported by Moss on the Canon City Riverwalk near Raynolds
Ave on July 5.
Gilpin County:
--An American Three-toed Woodpecker nest was reported by Shade in Golden Gate
SP on July 8. Park at Panorama Point. Take the Racoon Trail to behind the
lookout platform. In a tall isolated aspen there is the nest hole. The
Three-toed family was observed by Driscoll on July 10.
Logan County:
--A singing WOOD THRUSH, BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, Red-bellied Woodpecker, and 2
Great Crested Flycatchers were reported by Komar on July 4
at a pond just east of the Ranger's compound at Tamarack Ranch SWA.
--An Eastern Phoebe was reported by Komar at CR 55 bridge over South Platte
River (road to Crook).
--Komar also reported lots of Northern Cardinals at Tamarack Ranch SWA.
Mesa County:
--2 Purple Martins were reported by Korte at the end of Brush Creek Road (also
known as Rd 64.3) on July 5.
Mesa/Montrose Counties:
--On Divide Road on the Uncompahgre Plateau on July 6, Beason Reported Fox
Sparrows in willows and Purple Martins.
Montrose County:
--An American Three-toed Woodpecker was reported by Beason on Divide Road on
the Uncompahgre Plateau on July 6.
Pueblo County:
--2 Green Herons were reported by Ceci Lee at Pueblo Nature Center on July 5.
Sedgwick County:
--A singing male Indigo Bunting was reported by Komar at the Ovid water
treatment plant on July 4.
--A singing Carolina Wren was reported by Komar in thickets across the river
behind Ovid water treatment plant on July 4.
--A juv male PINE WARBLER was reported by Komar moving around Ovid Wood south
of US 138 on July 4.
The DFO field trip for Friday, July 16 will be to Filius Park and Mount Evans
led by Lynn Willcockson (303-757-7000). Meet at 0730 at Filius Park. Go west
on I-70 to Evergreen exit, then to Bergen Park exit. Turn right to Filius
Park. Bring lunch, water, clothes for changeable weather. Pipits and rosy
finches will be "target" birds. Weekday trip will avoid weekend crowds.
Golden Eagle or day pass needed.
The DFO field trip for Saturday, July 17 will be to Lair O' the Bear, Open
Space Park and possibly continuing to Evergreen area led by Bob Andrews
(303-249-6220). Meet at 0630 in parking lot. Go 4 miles west of Morrison on
CO 74 through Idledale to park entrance on left.
The DFO field trip for Sunday, July 18 will be to Rocky Mountain National Park
led by Ed Holub (303-979-2194). Meet at 0800 at Visitor Center near Beaver
Meadows Entrance to Park. Bring lunch and clothes for variable weather. Trip
will end about 3:00. Parks Pass needed.
