I spent just a few minutes checking things out at Valmont from Legion Park yesterday afternoon (1/3/11). No adult dark-mantled gulls, but one 1st winter GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL flew in to Leggett. 1000's of RING-BILLED GULLS and a handful of AMERICAN HERRINGS streaming in to Leggett. Maybe 100 gulls on the small ice shelf on Valmont. The thousands of gulls that were bathing in Leggett were too distant to ID, although I picked through a few hundred as they flew in from the east, picking out the GBBG in this manner. The adult TUNDRA SWAN hasn't moved. There were plenty of ducks to pick through, plus the customary pair of BALD EAGLES on the power poles, etc.
