I am glad you said thanks to Loch, since I have not. Loch ran to grab his scope to study a GULL, a huge step for him. Even better, he determined the bird had a yellow orbital ring. This shifted our thinking from Slaty-backed Gull to Western Gull, so thanks indeed! Let me make one more comment about Colorado birders in general. Following the discovery and ID, everyone standing on the sandspit who had seen this bird to his/her satisfaction, spent the rest of his/her time trying to notify everyone in their address book. Dozens and dozens of phone calls and text messages were made to everyone we could think of. I thought that was pretty cool!
