A hearty second to that! I was on the receiving end of one of those calls (from Ira Sanders) which resulted in my wife and I scooting down to Chatfield to have a look. Having missed the gull at the sandspit (and thanks a bunch, Doug, for pointing out that I could get a gadwall as consolation prize. I shouldn't have bought your book today, but I did. I should have insisted that you tell Amazon to give me a discount!), we tried multiple locations around the reservoir without success. Dopey me! Don't look for the bird- look for the birders. I finally located a flock (mainly via the stork-like pesence of Steve S.) and they in turn told me that the bird had left ten minutes before. Fortunately, they were kidding and no actual mayhem was necessary.

So, thanks to all CO birders for your sense of community!

Nice pics Brandon!  Had I known you had 459 Colorado birds, I wouldn't have called you ;- )

I am glad you said thanks to Loch, since I have not.  Loch ran to grab his scope to study a GULL, a huge step for him.  Even better, he determined the bird had a yellow orbital ring.  This shifted our thinking from Slaty-backed Gull to Western Gull, so thanks indeed!

Let me make one more comment about Colorado birders in general.  Following the discovery and ID, everyone standing on the sandspit who had seen this bird to his/her satisfaction, spent the rest of his/her time trying to notify everyone in their address book.  Dozens and dozens of phone calls and text messages were made to everyone we could think of.  I thought that was pretty cool!
