Well, at least for me, cocos2d already have some pretty cool and "advanced"
effect. You can always code your own too ;)

I don't see how this is not possible. It's all python, you can code whatever
you want wherever you want!

Well, if you read the site you have seen: cocos is not panda3d. I don't see
why you can't have a 2D library to make 2D games. Those are actually well
liked nowadays and there are big companies making 2D amazing 2D games to top
generation consoles. If you don't believe me, see for yourself:

I highly recommend you to study cocos and python more deeply and you'll be
aware of the infinite possibilities you have with a programming language and
a cool library like this.
