I concur.  I hardly believe the code size for them was enough to warrent their 
destruction.  I
would think modeless channels would be used.  I did not before know they existed, but 
now I know
they do (or did) I would miss them.  I think they should be brought back.. Shouldn't 
be too
hard... Just copy the existing code and make it so it doesn't parse mode changes.
