I felt the book's ending very melancholic - even depressed, or
disappointed: everything had went wrong and Kelvin has lost again his
love, at the same time.
But in some way, the main character had noticed how little a human
being really is, too. That can of course be seen as a positive thing,
too... But the book doesn't give you that kind of opinion, IMHO....
If you think that feeling your smallness is a positive thing, that's
an interpretation of the ending, not the ending itself.
BAH! ;) Whatever. A great book, anyhow. Highly recommended.
As you can see, at least Solaris gets your mind ticking... ;)
