i had a brief job at a library some years ago, and i got really frustrated for
seeing all those interesting books people borrowed and returned and never
having time to read them. i took the habit of reading a random half page of
something every time i took a load of books back to the shelf (library means
ordinary slave work really, in case anyone had any illusions).
right now i'm half-way through "mikael karvajalka" by mika waltari, the first
narnia book by c. s. lewis, and "quo vadis" by henryk sienkiewhatever (which i
felt bad about never reading, i bought it when i was 15) - but it doesn't look
like i'm ever going to finish any of them.
i've been reading "tarzan and the amazons" for about three years.
short stories rule, i found some 1940's adventure short story magazines at my
grandparent's attic, and they were really bad, i had some hilarious
moments. "seikkailujen maailma".
