For info, I had started on that but haven't found the time to finish yet. My
starting point is [here|https://github.com/pcmanus/cassandra/commits/9894] in
case anyone wants to get a better idea of what I mean, or want to continue from
that start. The branch is not complete however, it's not even compiling yet.
