On a further check we still do not know what we will use as gc settings in
testing long term. Currently we still have CMS for 11 but G1 for 17 in testing
and this In this ticket is initial test config which might change and it is
only for enabling people to test/work on 17 support. We can split the choice of
GC from the exports but I prefer not to do it in this ticket without a serious
need to do it. CASSANDRA-18263 is open to handle the gc settings. I will not
touch the IDE config as part of this ticket and leave alone the
_maybe_update_idea_to_java11 task.
Now, on another note - I realized you ask for

I want to confirm this part.
_exit 1_ prevents us from running anything else than 8, 11, 17+
If I comment it the way you requested, it gives us the chance to run with
versions like 9, 13, 15... Why do we still want those until 8 is removed? What
do I miss?
Also, on another note - do we want people to be able to run experimentally on
versions between 11 and 17 even after we remove 8? I thought we said "no" to
this question and that if someone wants something experimental, they can update
the scripts easily? Builds are already limited explicitly to 1.8, 11, 17. I
suggest we keep the _exit 1_ here.
