I appreciate this is raised a bit late, removing the explicit versions in
other files can happen in separate tickets. 18133 will do it for the test
scripts.

This is a valid question that I would have addressed here in the way you do it
but I think we should do it when we remove 8 as a whole because currently we do
not look only for 1.8 we check

also the patch version.
