   Yes, there are architectures that do not generate a trap when accessing a 
null pointer. However, many applications assume that dereferencing a null 
pointer will cause an error. Therefore, the system may need to use an MMU or 
MPU to mark the zero address as read-only (or otherwise protected) to enforce 
this behavior.
