   Yes, there are architectures that do not generate a trap when accessing a 
null pointer. However, system may need to make sure dereferencing a null 
pointer will cause an error, it can use an MMU or MPU to mark the zero address 
as read-only (or otherwise protected) to enforce this behavior.
