Opened draft PR #12944 for this scope. It covers both metadata map-to-config boundaries and reuses the helper from #12443; no second conversion policy or unrelated files are included. The existing MetadataProviderManagerTest now covers the disabled/enabled and plain/quoted-key controls without a datasource, plus real datasource merges in flat and nested source/sink configurations. It checks original/provider literal keys (including maps inside lists), valid path behavior, datasource override precedence, retained job settings and unchanged inputs. On dev ee83c538 plus #12443 head 3d6c855f and this fix, all 14 metadata tests pass. The complete API prerequisite reactor also passes verify: 513 tests total, zero failures/errors/skips. Before the fix, five metadata cases failed with BadPath. The PR remains a draft because #12443 is still unmerged. Its description distinguishes combined-tree local verification from standalone branch CI; it needs the dependency merged and fresh verification before becoming merge-ready.
