Yes, any change would be post-release. But we need to start thinking now. Personally, I am not certain that including [beanutils] is needed for [lang]. Extracting MethodUtils is however A Good Thing.
Also up for grabs should really be the type convertor part of [beanutils]. IMHO, type conversion is more of a [lang] thing than specific to beans. Related to this is my [pattern] hobby horse, where there is much good code (and some less good) waiting for a proper home outside of [collections], such as [lang].
