1. Matterhorn Market Place
I have rich knowledge in Java, Javascript and HTML which is required for
this idea. And I am very interested to design and implement a market place
for Matterhorn.
For this project, I understand that a website should be built for market
place, and should be integrated into the current admin UI. But I am not
clear about the last requirement, which is "people can upload the modules
workflow definitions, etc. that they want to offer", does it mean that the
customer can offer suggestion or requirement so that Matterhorn can serve
them better? Could you please elaborate more on this?
I don't know how much you found out about Matterhorn already. There are
three things that would be good to exchange between developers / users.
1. OSGI modules (probably as .jar files). These will add new
functionalities to Matterhorn. En example for this may be automated
captioning with external commercial services.
2. Workflow definitions. Matterhorn is very configureable. This is done
with XML files. I guess several users would like to get elaborated
Workflow Definitions for more experienced users/developers.
3. Encoding profiles. Currently ffmpeg is used as an encoding engine,
but there are other alternative implementations available too. The
encoding profiles set the parameters for the different encoders for
different formats. Not many people like to research what the optimal
parameters would be for the video-formats that they would like to use.
I would like to have an open market as a webpage where everyone can
browse these extensions and on the other hand I would like this to be
intergrated into the Matterhorn Admin UI, like the plugin section for
Wordpress, if you know this. You'll see the possible extensions in the
Admin UI and can click on them to install them.
2. Social Network Integration
I have experiences in using facebook connect apps as well as OpenSocial APIs
thourgh my intern experience in a web-application company.
As I am quite new to Matterhorn, I am not very sure how the different
integration standard is used currently. Could you please tell me more about
where these standard ( facebook, google+, OpenSocial ) will be used?
I would hope that we will have an embed player directly into the
Facebook start page and the google+ page. Currently you only see the link.
For several institutions it may be very interesting to use the user
management of the social networks instead of having a identity
management on their own. We talked to some small life long learning
institues and they don't really have infrastructure for elearning.
How would you like to integrate a system like Matterhorn into Facebook &
Co?
I would hope to have some more social features to. For example to
highlight segments in the videos that my friends watched (and liked).
Lastly, is it fine for me to email the specific mentor for the project, or I
should mail in mailing list?
I would currently stay with this on list, so that others can comment on
this too. If we get more into detail, we can mail directly.
