I've been trying to understand the information in this post: Spiritus ex Machina wrote: >> Has anyone here tried that kind of lash-up? Is >> there a commercially available MacSerial-to-DB9/DB25 (null-modem?) >> cable? What sort of additional software (other than Mac OS 7.1) would I >> likely need?

But I don't know what a DB9 connector is. I have an IDEA, but I don't know. (My idea is: a connector with two rows totaling nine pins). Is there a good visual dictionary of common (and uncommon) connectors somewhere on the Web? My problem is that I have two SE/30s. The one that doesn't work has a Ethernet card on the back. The one that works has a cord coming out of that special, developer's port I've never used, and it is apparently a serial cable of the PC variety (DB9?). So what is this serial cable used for? Hooking to a printer? Monitor? Other device? Any ideas? Can I combine the two computers into one working computer? (That is, will the "DB9" out not interfere with the Ethernet card coming from another slot?) -- Timothy Virkkala "Science and philosophy cast a net of words into the sea of being, happy in the end if they draw anything out besides the net itself, with some holes in it." - George Santayana /"\ ASCII Ribbon Campaign \ / No HTML/RTF in email X No Word docs in email / \ Respect for open standards -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
