This message written: Thursday, 11 July 2002 16:31:46 PDT Searching through a "new" GoodWill Outlet today I spied a LARGE black bag I recognized as one of the old compact Mac carry bags. Inside was a "pristine" SE-30! Keyboard, keyboard cable, power cable and mouse included. Grabbed the bunch, paid my $5 and made my break.
Powered it up at home, PRAM battery still good, reports System 7.1 and 5 meg of RAM with a 60mb HD. Opened it up; found just a little dust. Wondered why the HD activity light didn't work so pulled the drive, an Epson HMD 976. Even had the front bezel from whatever it had been "borrowed" from. No place to plug in the LED for the drive light. All RAM slots are full. Why does it report 5mb? >From which Mac can I "borrow" an ethernet card to connect this machine to my network? The IIsi has a "two-part" card with connecting cable, but is it compatible? Now my Compact line up is reasonable complete with several duplicates. 512K Plus SE SE-30 Classic Classic II No 128 or CC, but who knows what will show up next? Still having boot problems with the 512 (the 400k drive is a REAL PAIN) but got a partial boot with a stripped system 6 for Plus. Will have to dig out a Plus system HD and put a system 5 on a disk. All the "older" systems (1, 1.1, 2, etc) seem to have been "purged" by Apple. Annoying. Ken Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without. -- Compact Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/>.
