OK, took it apart again and stuck in 8 1mb simms, all the same, salvaged 
from another "project" (actually a PC motherboard). The "new" simms were 
9 chippers, (parity?) but the SE/30 seems to like them, at least it seems 
to run a bit faster. The ones that came out were 4x1mb and 4x256k. I had 
forgotten about 256k simms.
