How about Apple being afraid of someone fixing their Mac instead of 
supporting their Service Centers which more than likely won't touch 
an Apple "vintaged" machine? It's easy to blame the lawyers and 
litigation for the lack of service manuals but I see Apple tightening 
the area of owner upgrades to smaller and smaller circles.
