Yo compacters everywhere, To my thread here:
>>On any number of compact and other Macs that come across my bench. I >>occassionaly >find application software that includes the parenthetical term >>"...(trimmed)" in >its name... My ramblings about Mac information sources has >>not yet explained this >"trimmed" thing. Any knowlege on this one? Our Jim Arnott <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> responds: >I'll bet that it's always on a 68k machine, isn't it? I do believe this is so. I will watch for it. >There's an app that trims all the fat (PPC) code out of earlier apps. >Forget what it was called, but I used to use it on my 68k machines. Could be Jim has this one nailed. To do this code stripping task, I use a combination of PowerPCheck by Alessandro Levi Montalcini and StripPPC by In Phase Consulting. These do not leave a "(trimmed)" as a part of the application title. I wonder which code stripper does? Also, I use Strip68k on my Power Macs to achieve the same purpose again without any "(trimmed)". I will watch for some of these trimmed apps to be amused that they ever contained dual code. Code stripping is a useful tool working on small hard drives. I'm not sure new people with low end 20 GB hard drives will ever understand this.
